The summer sun is hot, evenings are long, pool parties fill the calendar and you may be anxious for a getaway. Whether you want to explore locally or venture out-of-state, hit the road to visit these landmarks near you.

Oklahoma

Take a drive down Historic Route 66*. Oklahoma boasts a large section of the highway, which offers a variety of interesting attractions. Grab a soda at POPS*, pose for a photo at the Blue Whale* or order a hamburger at Waylan’s Ku-Ku Burger*. When it is time to fill up your car, pay with your Arvest Personal Credit Card to earn 5X Rewards1 on gas purchases. Be sure to activate your rewards and start earning now, because bonus points are only available from the time you activate until July 31.

Go for a swim at Turner Falls Park* in Davis. The park’s main attraction is its 77-foot waterfall, which flows into an area for swimming. Reserve a campsite and spend the weekend hiking trails and exploring everything the park has to offer.

Reflect on the history of a city when you visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum* in Oklahoma City. The memorial commemorates the victims and survivors of the 1995 Murrah Building bombing. Today, the location features an indoor interactive museum as well as an outdoor memorial, which stands on the grounds of the original structure.

Arkansas

Spend the afternoon wandering the halls and outdoor trails of Crystal Bridges* Museum of American Art, in Bentonville. The museum is free to the public and hosts events* throughout the year for visitors of various ages.

Relax and refresh at the historic bathhouses* in Hot Springs. Many believe the natural hot springs have healing properties and minerals. Not interested in a spa day? Consider exploring other unique attractions including antique shops, museums and art galleries.

Enjoy the scenic views of Mount Magazine* State Park in Logan County. The park is made famous as Arkansas’ highest point and offers accommodations*, hiking trails*, picnic areas, unique events* and many more exciting activities*.

Missouri

Venture underground at the Fantastic Caverns* in Springfield. You do not have to be adventurous to explore the beauty of the mile-long route — visitors ride in trams for the entirety of the tour. This is a great retreat from the high summer temperatures, with cavern temperatures hovering around 60 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.

Step back in history at the National WWI Museum and Memorial* in Kansas City. The museum offers events throughout the year highlighting different exhibitions and learning opportunities for the community, which can be easily found on its calendar*.

Take a stroll at Jacob L. Loose Park* in Kansas City. The property, donated by Ella Loose in honor of her husband, was the site of the Battle of Westport during the Civil War. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon enjoying the Rose Garden* and water features.

Do not forget to pay with your Arvest Personal Credit Card when you stop to fill up your car. Activate to earn 5X1 rewards points when you use your card at the pump.

Kansas

Venture out to the Ernie Miller Park and Nature Center* in Olathe. Revel in the peaceful sounds of nature as you hike the three miles of trails and explore the nature center. Slow down and enjoy the park’s amenities, which are free to the public.

If you are up for a bit of a longer road trip, consider visiting Strataca* – an underground salt museum in Hutchinson. Visitors can ride a shaft 650 feet underground into the salt mine itself. You will learn all about salt mining and experience a glimpse of what it was like in the early days.

Learn something new at the Spencer Museum of Art* at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. The museum houses more than 45,000 objects and a variety of exhibitions for visitors to enjoy. Before you visit, be sure to check out which current exhibitions* are on display.

Spring Clean Your Life

Thursday, May 02 at 04:00 PM
Category: Arvest News

Colorful flowers and fresh-cut lawns are sure signs spring has arrived. However, the clutter of life can sometimes overshadow the growth and opportunity this time of year brings. Try a few of the tips below to find out how spring cleaning requires a lot more than just vacuuming and dusting.

Manage Spending

Does it feel like you spend your paycheck a little faster every month? Consider creating a budget. Start by making a list of everything you spend money on, down to the smallest purchase. Then, prioritize those items, with the most important expense listed as number one. Divide up your paycheck from there, and assign specific spend limits to each item. The most important step is: stick to your budget. If you know where your paycheck is going each month, it could be easier to say no to impulsive, unnecessary purchases.

Organize Belongings

It can be overwhelming to sort through old, unused personal belongings. Rather than giving up and stockpiling everything in your attic, create three piles to sort items into — one pile to keep, one pile to give away and one pile to throw away. Better yet, use storage tubs or trash bags to keep each pile contained. Commit to giving away or throwing away a certain number of items to resist holding onto unnecessary clutter. House Beautiful* recommends getting rid of anything that has gone unused for six months or more.

Label Storage

After you have disposed of the trash pile and donated the give-away pile, it is time to tackle the keep pile. If you plan to stash the majority of your belongings in a storage unit or attic, it must be neatly organized. Consider purchasing large, secure packing tubs and filling each box strategically. After each container is filled, write the contents on a piece of paper and tape it to the lid of the tub. Now, each time you are looking for something in storage, it will be easy to find and easy to repack. Be sure to update the lists each time you remove or add anything.

Declutter Finances

Not all clutter is obvious — the balance on your credit card is another important item to take control of. While large balances can be overwhelming and seem unending, there are options for making the amount easier to manage. Consider transferring your balance to an Arvest Consumer Credit Card. You will enjoy 0%1 APR for 12 billing cycles on balance transfers and purchases. After that, your rate will be based on credit worthiness, 14.65% to 21.00%. You can also earn up to $1002 in bonus rewards. Try to use the promotional period to pay off a large portion of the card’s balance and ease the burden on your account.

Assign Tasks

Rather than trying to conquer your entire to-do list in one day, The Spruce* recommends scheduling a week of smaller projects — focusing on one project each day. This will help to avoid burnout and make the list seem less daunting. With each assignment completed, cross an item off and see your progress in real-time. Short on time? Consider involving every member of your household. If each person completes their share of the responsibilities, you can declutter your life in a fraction of the time.
